Insertion and receiving shaft

Insertion and receiving shafts for pipe jacking are placed at the start and end points of drives in greater depth. Usually their shape is a cylinder, which is best suited to bear the occurring forces. Pipe jacking shafts are temporary structures required for the building work, but they may also serve as permanent manholes.

Features If the shaft is only used for the building work an inspection manhole with a smaller diameter is installed after completion of pipe jacking. The unused space around the inspection manhole is then backfilled with soil.

If a shaft is designed as manhole for permanent use after the building work we install a step and channel element, a steel-reinforced concrete reducing slab as a ceiling, and a DN 1000 access opening.

Both systems are suitable for any installation depth and are installed using the Caisson method. To facilitate the installation process a steel-reinforced concrete cutting edge is attached to the lower edge of the shaft. Depending on the outer shaft diameter the cutting edge is between 25 and 40 mm wider than the shaft.
